Are you having a sleep over? Is Halloween around the corner? Whatever your reason for seeking out glow in the dark nail polish, you can find some answers here! Have you ever had a shirt or a bracelet that you could have under light and then turn off to see it glow? Well that is kind of how glow in the dark nail polish works. There are a few different forms of it but that’s basically how all of them are going to work.

Just The Facts

What you should know is while most packaging will show a blinding light coming from the nail polish sets. It will not glow nearly as much as most of us would like. It will certainly give off a glow but perhaps not what you are hoping, so don’t go in thinking you will be a guiding light in the dark with your glowing fingernail polish.

How It Works
Glow in the dark nail polish works like any other, it should be treated as your regular nail varnish would be. It would be recommended to use a basecoat and even a top coat to seal in the nail polish unless this is a one night thing. While the ingredients are safe, it will stain just as any other nail polish would. One thing to note is if it starts to get thick, I would not suggest adding nail polish thinner or remover to thin it out as it will decrease the effect of the glow.

To get the best result, a thick coat is what you need. Maybe even a few layers if you cant get quite enough on in one go. Some of the brands of glow in the dark nail polish go on thin and then don’t produce very good results so do your best to get a decent amount on there until you got a nice thick layer of fingernail polish going. Once its all set (depending on the brand) you might need to put it under a bright lamp and then shut down the lights and see what you have.

DO NOTE. Some are made for actual glowing in the dark and others might be made more just to be bright and or glow better with a black light. Be sure to read what you are buying and make sure that you have the right product.

Where to get it!?

It actually is not easy to find glow in the dark nail polish! During the Halloween season it can be found at the usual stores, walmart, walgreens, and any store where it has a decent selection of nail polish. However, any other time you will probably have a hard time and if it is really important you can do the next best thing, online shopping!

For my picks of glow in the dark nail polish, well it wasn’t a big list.

What real purpose do you have in even thinking about a UV nail lamp? Well many of us out there haven’t the time or money to get our nails done. If you really wanted to have outstanding nails without doing it yourself, you will probably end up going once a week to your favorite nail salon. For plenty of us, that isn’t going to work. At the same time, doing your own nails can be as time consuming if not more.

The main benefit of doing your own nails is of course, saving money. However, if you do go down this road it can often end in frustration. Getting them done just right can often leave you frustrated and redoing nails again and again. This is often caused by distraction, kids, not paying attention, or just down right impatience because you get bored of painting your nails after a while. Like all of us, we want things to be done as quickly as possible, it’s a rat race out there and we can’t waste time on mundane things. So that is where the UV Nail Light comes into all of this. With this you can cut down substantial amounts of time by getting your nails dried quicker!

The worst moment in all of doing your own nail polish is getting that awesome finishing touch, only to bump it or somehow smudge it while waiting for it to dry, then its back to the drawing board for that nail. Avoid moments like this with a simple UV Nail Lamp. With something like this you can have your nails dry in minutes and not only avoid the wait but it tends to make them much stronger and able to last longer.

Ok so all this hype and you still don’t know what a UV Nail Lamp is. It’s pretty simple. Most are of the same basic design. It’s a basic unit, some made for a single hand and some for two hands. There are even some for single fingers but that seems a bit too small. My first impression was that it looked like a mini tanning booth for my hand, haha! I would recommend getting a double hand model as most of them are not much more expensive and then it is twice as fast!

Some come with just a UV light while others will incorporate a fan as well. Some feel that they can not live without ones that have fans. While others will say just using the lamp gives them a better and more even dry. It really seems to be a preference for each individual. I myself like just a UV light as it has never failed to give me a nice hard shiny finish. With one of these your nails will cure in a fraction of the time and you can be off doing other things or move on to your toenails! You can have creative nail polish in a fraction of the time.

When dealing with all kinds of nail polishes and other nail art, your nails can take quite a beating from the chemicals and the constant applying and removing of these paints. It’s a good idea to do your best to keep your nails healthy and strong so you don’t have problems down the road with them becoming brittle or getting that unsightly yellow stain to it. It’s an old tradition for thousands of years that women have beautiful and healthy nails. It invokes something in us about that appearance and tells us a lot about that person. So let us take a look at a few tips and items you can pickup to easily keep your nails in tip top shape.

Manni & Peddi!

The simple answer here is if you can afford it, it is wise to get a regular Manicure and Pedicure. This also helps you when you leave it up to the professionals, at a glance they should be able to identify any problems with your finger or toe nails that you can nip in the bud now before they become a problem. You really don’t want to walk around with great finger nails only to have to hide your toes because of some toenail fungus you could have avoided, yuck!

If this isn’t something you wish to spend money on frequently or you would just rather do it yourself, there are a few basic tools to get that will allow you to be your own salon. Nail polish removers and wipes, cuticle creams, a nail brush, cuticle pusher, cuticle trimmer, and nail cutters and a file.

Nail Polish And Removers

Choosing a color is all up to you, the sheer amount of shades and styles out there is astounding. You could apply a different color everyday and probably never run out. Find something that fits your color style and use it! If your nails are sensitive or you are worried about the chemicals, look for “natural nail polish” or “non toxic nail polish” as these will have less of the abrasive chemicals in them that are toxic and can give you a bad reaction if allergic in some way. Note that these tend to have a bit less staying power on them but it’s a small price to pay for being non toxic right?

As for a nail polish remover you shouldn’t have to worry too much about choosing one, there are different applications of it, whether you put it on cotton yourself or use the container with the sponge in it. They all are pretty similar organic solvents. These can however dry out your nails and fingers and are very irritating to eyes as well as extremely flammable.

Using Nail Creams

Using a nail cream is often a good idea especially to avoid having weak and cracking nails. These can be used to help with this problem if you are already having trouble as well. Most of these creams are more of a hand & foot cream combined rather than just nail cream. They all have the proteins and strengtheners in them necessary for keeping strong healthy nails so it is not a bad investment. This is also great if you are having trouble with your skin or nails drying out because of perhaps using the nail polish remover often.

World of Nail Files and Buffers

You really can not do anything to your nails without having to use a nail file sooner or later. Without it you will just have a jagged edge nail from the clippers and a rough surface without the buffer. You do not need to spend hours upon hours doing this as some people would lead you to believe, if you see someone doing this often it is probably more of a habit then general care, something to do with your hands when your bored or nervous. Use these to give a shape to your nails before you apply nail polish and even after if there is a little chipping somewhere, just smooth it out. The buffer is great if you have a problem with uneven nail surface, some of us have that ripple in our nails that doesn’t look natural when you have shiny nail polish, buff that down a bit and create a smooth area for your nail polish. Just don’t overdue it or you will thin out your nails, every couple of weeks is often enough and don’t forget to add that nail strengthener application to help keep everything strong.

So what is Nail Polish? Well it is a solvent that can be used to augment the look of your nails with color. This can be applied to both the finger nails and toes nails. Nail polish has existed for thousands of years; it can be dated back to ancient China. Back then it is believed they first used a mix of beeswax, gelatin, and gum Arabic. For it to have some color, the Chinese would crush flowers and then leave them out over night. It later was used in ancient Egypt as a symbol of a social status.

Nail polish has since then evolved to have a polished look than just being painted. There are wide arrays of shades that can match to one’s liking and/or one’s skin tone; from glittery to metallic to clear. At times, men, not only women, prefer to match their nail polish with their outfit. Through the use of nail polish, people have found a way to create art on nails; people would draw lines or flowers or even use different colors on every nail. Apart from cosmetic purposes, some brands have showcased certain types of nail polish that promote, growth, strength, and prevention from occasional breaking and cracking.

Nail care is not only about nail polish. In fact, sometimes, you can get away without nail polish as long as you have beautiful nails. Nail care says a lot about your personality and on how you groom yourself. Aside from that, it can also build up your confidence, you’ll have younger looking hands, and healthy at that. So before you decide on the color that you like, prep your nails first to maximize your nail polish experience.
* Don’t grow your nails too long. This is more prone to chip off. The ideal length is a quarter inch from your tips.
* Never cut cuticles. Cuticles are there for a reason, and that is to protect your nails. Once it gets cut, it can cause infections and it will grow thicker, the more you will have the urge to cut them. Just push the cuticles back with the use of a wooden tool.
* Moisturize your hands often.
* Don’t use your nails as handy tools. Never use them for rough tasks like digging or puncturing something.
* Avoid nail biting.
* Proper nail care involves not using drying chemicals with your hands like alcohol or acetone to remove your nail polish. Wear gloves.

* Nail services can cost an arm and a leg; so, here are some tips on how to do your own manicure. Make sure you have your tools ready like:
* Wooden stick pusher – as mentioned, it is ideal to make use of wood rather than metal since this is gentler to your cuticles. Remember to just push back after you have soaked them in warm soapy water.
* Cuticle clipper – you will ONLY use this with hangnails and not for your cuticles.
* Nail file – it is better to file your nails than to clip them because dry nails have more tendencies to break. Also, you have more control with the length and the shape of your nail with a file.
* Cuticle remover or lotion – after soaking your nails, apply cuticle lotion to make them softer and easier to push back.
* Nail brush – you will use this before you start to brush off your nail beds together with warm soapy water
* Topcoat, basecoat, and your nail polish – you will need a basecoat as a primer so your nail polish will last longer. Topcoat to add gloss to your nail polish.
* Warm, soapy water & towel – to make your cuticles soft.
* Nail polish remover (if you have nail polish) – avoid using acetone or alcohol-based nail polish removers as they rub off the natural oils from your nails and make it dry.

Here are some general ideas on how to do your own nail care. Once you’ve read this article, you’ll never look at nail care the same way ever again!
* When filing your nails, it is ideal to shape your nails similar to the curve of your nails.
* Once you are done filing your nails and pushing back your cuticle, you are now ready to apply the basecoat.
* Basecoat helps the nail polish to last longer and it reduces the chance of your nails turning yellow. After applying the base coat, wait for it to dry for a few minutes so it will stick on your nail beds. You may also opt to use a nail strengthener as a basecoat.
* Once basecoat is dry, you may now apply your nail polish. Remember to apply nail polish in thin coats. When you apply it thickly, the nail polish tends to bubble. In order to do this, sweep the polish brush against the side of the bottle so excess nail polish is removed. You may apply two coats of nail polish BUT be sure the previous coat is dry so they will bond better. You would also want to wrap your nails by brushing a little at the edges and a little under the nail tip; this lessens the chances of chipping.

You might want to know that keeping your nail polish in a cool, dry place will actually lengthen its shelf life. You would want to store it where there is constant temperature. Once you have you have your nail polish on, avoid basking your hands in the water for too long as it can lift the polish off. If you really want your manicure to last, apply topcoat once a day; this would also keep the shine of your nail polish. Contrary to popular belief, you should never shake your nail polish, better to roll them between your palms. Shaking the nail polish would actually introduce air and therefore create bubbles.

Have fun coloring your nails!

If you are new to using Nail Polish Sets or any kind of nail polish tools, you might wonder why you need some things like top coats, base coats, etc. They all have their uses in separate ways such as the look it gives your nail polish, the longevity of your current application, chip and smudge prevention, and even nail health itself.

A base coat is usually a clear liquid material that is applied to your nails before your main color coat of nail polish. It can double as a top coat if you don’t have a top coat available. A base coat is basically a clear nail polish with added ingredients for strength and health; ingredients such as aloe vera, protein, vitamin e, and or calcium are often found in these.

To get the best benefit of the base coat, you will want to make sure your nail is clean. Using nail polish remover to do away with any oily residue or imperfections that will interfere with a smooth coat is a good idea. After the nail is cleansed, apply a coat as you would nail polish to the nail, making sure it is fully covered and even, no need to glob it on, just a nice clean coat.

If you are still wondering, why do I need a Nail Base Coat? My nails are fine!

The proteins and added ingredient will not only strengthen your nail, but the base coat itself will protect your nail against the harsh chemicals in a regular colored nail polish. Using nail polish by itself over and over will really take its toll on your nails, not only weakening them, but often staining them with the nail polish. If you are noticing a yellowing of your nails, this is probably why.

Think of the base coat as a nice layer of protection from all those harsh chemicals. A few easy steps and you are set, saving you the trouble of having to go through a long rejuvenation process later on for your weakened and stained nails. The stains will come out but it could take a week or two of a remedy process that you don’t have to go through if you just use the base coat.

If your nails are stained you can try soaking them in water with lemon juice for 10-15 minutes every week or even denture cleaner chemicals (but only for a few moments). There are also a boat load of products you can buy specifically for this if the home remedies don’t work.

In reality, there is no reason to not use a base coat. It will protect your nails, increase their strength, protect your polish from chipping, and even keep the nail polish shine lasting longer. Using a base coat, nail polish coat, and then a top coat is all you need to promote a solid nail color effect while protecting your nails and giving your nail polish the ability to last even longer.

There are several brands out there, each has their own ingredients and special touches, there really is no “it” brand out there, but you get what you pay for so try a few out and see which one suits your needs.

When working with Nail Polish, you generally will be familiar with top coats. However, some people out there may only use nail polish itself and nothing else. Sometimes you might not know of all the other things you can do for your nails if no one is telling you.

Something like a top coat is a great way to protect your nails. When you get a good solid nail polish coat on, you will want that to last as long as possible right? Naturally! So in order for that to work you will either need to put plastic gloves and hope you still don’t bump your nails, or… you can use a few products that can give your nails longer lasting shine and resistance to damage. Things like scratches, chipping, dings, and scuffs can easily happen to your nails just from your daily life. With a top coat, you will have a nice layer of protection that makes your nail polish more resistant to this type of damage.

A top coat usually only needs one application for it to do the job, but if you feel like you need another it won’t hurt. Not only will you be getting a solid layer of protection, but a nail top coat will actually give your nails a nice shiny gloss to them. Reapplying throughout the week will help refresh the shine.

Most top coats look the same in the bottle, a simple clear liquid that applies like a nail polish and dries fairly quickly into a nice layer of gloss over your nails. A quick-dry top coat is common for those who want to apply over their still wet nails if the drying process is taking too long. This is also good to do as it will be less likely you will smudge a nail while waiting for them to dry, some polishes can feel like an eternity before they stop feeling tacky and finally dry.

There really is no con to using a top coat. With it you get a way to help your nails dry quicker, give them a layer of protection, and help give them a better shine, keep them looking good for a longer period, and even help strengthen your nail itself. It is also worth noting that these can be used on toenails just the same.

Your final choice of topcoat will be a personal preference, what one person swears by, another will mock and ridicule. As most people have much different taste in nail polish, people tend to have a top coat or two that they love to death. There is no general top coat that everyone uses, try a few out and find your gem.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

This is a recommended quick dry top coat, many of the customers who have purchased this like the clear glossy finish it gives over some other top coats. The added bonus of it being a quick dry is great for those of us who hate waiting.

OPI Top Coat T30

Another well liked Top coat. Reviews have said it is reliable and does exactly what it promises, giving you a nice shine and lasting protection. OPI is a respected brand and has quality products.

When looking around at nail polish, there are always a few diamonds in the rough that you may pass up. Duri is one of those brands that you might not know, but when you do you are not dissatisfied. They are a hidden delight that spreads by word of mouth and salon stories. Next time you are at your favorite salon, ask around about them and see what others think.

Duri has been a manufacturer of nail polish for 20+ years. Back then they started with just a few colors and even fewer treatments. Now they have over 200 colors and 10 select treatments for your nails. They are known for their very popular Rejuvacote product. It is used to strengthen nails and get them stronger and more durable. It is an inexpensive tool to provide life for your weak, chipped, brittle nails. Strengthen your nails, give them a base coat, and give them a shine all in one product.

Duri Naul Polish is not a well known company in some nail polish circles. But they are often found in select salons all over the place. Most people are first introduced to their products inside a salon and are never disappointed. They have a variety of colors and shades unique, designed by their advanced product technology. They are on the front line of the industry and are on top of the latest fashion trends. Their goal is to help you heal your nails while making them beautiful at the same time.

Duri Rejuvacote Nail Growth System

This is a great product that doesn’t let you down. Rejuvacote is a leading product of Duri that delivers on its promise. Apply it like a base coat. Add a nail polish color if you like. Apply Rejuvacote again as a top coat. Re-apply daily for full effect. After 1 week remove with a nail polish remover. As your nails get stronger and healthier, you need only apply every other day. You will notice your nails becoming stronger, healthier, more resistant to chipping and easier to grow them longer. This really is an all in one product for your nail health.

Many consumer reviews rave about this product and that it isn’t very expensive. You will hardly find an ill word about them and their leading product. IF you suffer from split and weak nails, give this a try.

So you have heard a lot about people switching to Natural Nail Polish and you are wondering what that’s all about. Well it is basically a Nail Polish without all the harmful chemicals that Nail Polishes have been using for years. Not only are they good for the environment but its good for you. We are talking toxic, cancer causing chemicals here. Not what you want applied to a part of your body.

As the times have changed and many products have tried to go “green” Nail Polish should follow. The chemicals in traditional Nail Polishes are toluene, formaldehyde, very toxic carcinogens and unhealthy to be exposed too. These chemicals help the Nail Polish last longer, but is it really worth it to have your nails shine just a little bit longer? I don’t think so. It’s worth going with a Natural Nail Polish, better safe than sorry. Help yourself out and the environment and go Natural.

Piggy Paint Natural Nail Polish and Remover Set
If you are looking to get started with Natural Nail Polish you might want to try out this non toxic setup. It’s odorless and hypoallergenic, perfect for anyone sensitive to the toxic fumes. The Remover is also safe with no harmful solvents.

OPI Natural Nail Polish Strengthener
Another great Natural Nail Polish Product. If you are looking to keep it green even with Nail Strengtheners, this is a great buy. Non toxic, fully chemical free and ready to be used.

OPI Natural Nail Base Coat .5 fl oz
Great for getting a Professional look with your nails while still staying in the Natural Nail Polish category. This high quality Base Coat is fantastic and has no chemicals or toxic fumes to worry about

DO the environment a favor and go green! The use of standard Nail Polish is something that should sooner or later be phased out to make way for safer products for all of us.
